In celebration of World Bee Day (20th May), the award-winning River Restaurant at The Lowry Hotel has announced its ‘Bee Afternoon Tea’, complete with a selection of pastries and sweet treats, inspired by Manchester’s beloved bee symbol.
The menu begins with sandwiches including honey roasted ham, bar-bee-cue meatballs, honey mustard chicken, and a honey fig dip served with blue cheese and freshly baked pitta.
The dessert selection features of a variety of honey infused treats, including a honey and mascarpone tart with pear and honeycomb, honey and almond nougat mousse with milk chocolate and clementine, purple fig and burnt honey gâteaux with a port glaze and candied walnut, and a honey cake served with lemon cream, whiskey and ginger – the ultimate sweet treat!
Of course, no Afternoon Tea is complete without traditional freshly baked scones served with Cornish clotted cream and jam.
The River Restaurant has a selection of 23 teas to choose from, so you can pair the perfect blend to suit your preference. For those looking to enjoy a tipple or two, champagne or gin can be added to your booking.
A selection of bee themed cocktails will also be available throughout May, including the ‘Queen Bee’, made with galyva liqueur mixed with honey and finished with prosecco, and the ‘Bee’s Knees’, mixed with Jameson, Midori, pineapple juice, apple puree, lemon juice and caramel syrup.
The Bee Afternoon Tea can be booked for £30pp, with the champagne or gin option available to book for £40pp.
