There’s a professional golf tournament taking place somewhere on the planet pretty much every single week of the year. But, none hit quite as hard as the four majors, which bring together the best players from around the world and from the different tours together in one place.
The fourth and final major of the year is the iconic Open Championship, with the action taking place on a beautiful slice of Northern Irish coastline. In this article, we’ll detail how you can watch the Open Championship in the UK.
Open Season
The best in the business will first have to navigate the ever-tricky US Open, which takes place at the Oakmont Country Club in Pennsylvania this month.
The golf odds have Scottie Scheffler as the favourite at 11/4… and why not? He’s the world number one and a three-time major champion. The US Open betting odds also have the likes of Rory McIlroy (15/2), Bryson DeChambeau (15/2) and Jon Rahm (12/1) amongst the favourites to dethrone the reigning champion, Xander Schauffele.
He outlasted the field in what was a gruelling edition of the Open Championship, with heavy rain and strong winds buffeting the players at Royal Troon. They’ll be hoping for better weather this time around…

How McIlroy would love to win the Open Championship on home, Northern Irish soil. It’s now been eleven years since he lifted the Claret Jug, but in the meantime has gone on to land the career grand slam – winning all four majors.
The Irishman completed that feat at The Masters in April, where he became just the sixth man in history to triumph in golf’s four most prestigious events. McIlroy put in a strong shift the last time that the Open Championship headed to the Royal Portrush course in 2019, but it was another Irishman – Shane Lowry – who got his hands on the trophy in fine style.
He trounced the field, winning by a considerable margin of six shots from his Ryder Cup teammate, Tommy Fleetwood. It was an emotional victory for Lowry, who is yet to add to his major collection since. Perhaps lightning will strike twice at Royal Portrush?
How to Watch The Open
The 2025 Open Championship will get underway on Thursday, July 17, running for the traditional four days and coming to a conclusion on Monday, July 21.
You can head to Royal Portrush if you want to watch the action first hand. Although tickets have technically sold out, at the time of writing, a number were available on The Open’s official ticket resale platform at face value prices.
The Dunluce Course at Royal Portrush is approximately one hour by car from Belfast International Airport, with some rail links also available.

Alternatively, if you’re more of an armchair spectator, you can catch the Open Championship live on the Sky Sports Golf TV channel, which will offer unbridled access to the action as well as post-round interviews and analysis.
There are numerous different ways to watch the Open Championship in 2025, so there’s no excuse for missing a single birdie or bogey on the Links at Royal Portrush.
