As summer fast approaches, travelling to your favourite destinations around the world either business or leisure, mobile devices are proving to be the most productive way of researching and booking your travel plans.
An infographic released from Opera Mediaworks has detailed that in a survey of 1,000 US mobile, asked about their travel planning habits. Found that mobile platform do miles ahead of the rest, with 66% of respondents prefer to use their smartphones, rather than desktops/laptops, for travel research.
With the advancement of technology, researching and booking travel on your smartphone is easy and can be accessed anywhere with minimum effort, 85% of respondents said they use mobile devices to book travel activities and one in three respondents said they use specific mobile applications, such as TripAdvisor and Yelp.
Reliance on mobiles has influenced the way in which we travel the trend of consumers spending more time in high quality apps that add real value to their everyday; app developers are seeing higher engagement rates in their travel apps.
As we see mobile users shifting to spending more time in the app world, it will be interesting to see how travel and hospitality apps developed into meeting consumer needs and identifying the ongoing trends. Apps designed for travellers to find locations, food preferences, interests, hobbies and more essentially becoming an app for all mobile travel activities, with other big named apps such as Uber taking advantage of the marketing opportunities.
Many advertisers still believe that consumers will only turn to their mobile devices for research, searching related items or browsing travel apps for ideal locations on where to and where they will stay. However, this infographic mythicize that ideology and shows that when it comes to booking flights and hotels consumers are more in touch with using applications to initiate the booking process.
