Chic and minimalist Autumn aesthetic takes over scary decor this Halloween with 1.5 BILLION hashtags, experts reveal! 🎃
1. Choose a colour scheme
It’s important to choose a colour scheme that complements your existing decor and furniture and keep the more vibrant Halloween colours such as bright orange or neon green to a minimum. The great thing about purchasing decorations is that there’s something out there for everyone! As long as your choices for decor are cohesive and Halloween-related, you can range from an all-pink theme to complete gothic.
If you’re after a traditional yet mature Halloween aesthetic, sticking to a classic Autumnal colour palette will work best, with colours such as white, rust, saffron, plum, olive green and chocolate brown. No matter what you choose, however, be sure to vary shades, especially if it’s the same colour, otherwise, everything will blend together and offer no dimension to your space.
2. Decide whether you’re having a focal point or a general Halloween vibe
If you’re an avid decorator, you’ll already have a place in mind to show off your Halloween decor, but if not, then choose a spot and utilise it! Whether it’s atop your fireplace, next to your bookshelf or all over your room, use the space you have to pick the best decor and designs for that area. For example, your fireplace and bookshelves have the perfect spot for trinkets and ornaments to sit upon, whereas your front door and driveway are ideal for a plethora of pumpkins and even a Halloween wreath!
3. Don’t shy away from pumpkins, class them up!
Speaking of pumpkins, they’re the biggest association with Autumn and Halloween, so missing one out of your decorations would be a shame. However, you don’t need to say goodbye to them if you’re worried about their bright, child-like appearance. Simply class it up!
Opt for a mature design with a glass or ceramic pumpkin ornament, or even a white or cream-coloured pumpkin. Whether it be opaque or solid, this mature take on a Halloween classic will serve to elevate your space and add dimension to your other decorations.
4. Create a spooky, warm space with candles
Autumn is the time when you want to curl up on the couch with a blanket and a hot drink, appreciating the darker days and basking in the ambience you’ve created, so what better way than to include candles within your interior design choices? Depending on your theme and the area you want to decorate, there are many types of candles to choose from. From pillar candles to floating candles, there is an array of spooky wicks that can serve all types of aesthetics.
The most Halloween-themed of the lot would be taper candles, especially when paired with a gothic-style candelabra! Perfect for shelves or acting as centrepieces for a dining table, these candles offer a classic, mature appearance compared to your usual ghost-shaped candle from the Halloween aisle in a supermarket.
