Brighton’s largest public-voted food and drink awards have returned for 2026, marking their tenth anniversary with a city-wide “Choose Local” campaign. The Brighton Restaurant Awards Vote Online (BRAVOs) opened on 11 February and will run until 10 March 2026, inviting the public to honour standout independent venues throughout Brighton, Hove and Sussex.
Organised by Restaurants Brighton, the BRAVOs span 18 categories covering the breadth of the region’s hospitality offering. The initiative is designed to rally community support behind independent operators who define the area’s culinary identity. Against a backdrop of economic uncertainty for the sector, this year’s edition places renewed emphasis on celebrating local talent and resilience.
Sustainability continues to be a defining element of the awards’ ethos. The University of Brighton remains a key partner, supporting the Sustainable Champions category for the tenth anniversary edition.
Through this partnership, attention is drawn to the Sustainability Toolkit initiative, which equips venues with resources to enhance their environmental and social performance. Demonstrating the same commitment, the awards trophies are produced by Sussex-based Designs Woodcraft, crafted from recycled materials using traditional artisan methods.
A new award, “Best Sweets and Treats”, has been introduced for 2026. This category shines a spotlight on refined culinary craftsmanship, from artisan patisserie and handcrafted desserts to creative gelato and specialist baking. The visual identity for the anniversary campaign has been created by local illustrator Kirsti Davidson, whose design reflects the city’s artistic and independent character.
Nick Harvey, founder of Restaurants Brighton, said: “Reaching our tenth year is a proud moment for the BRAVOs, and it’s a testament to the incredible quality and resilience of our city’s food and drink scene. Over the last decade, we’ve seen the BRAVOS evolve from a simple vote into a powerful way for people to show genuine, heartfelt support for the venues they love. Our launch last week at The Ironworks Studios was a fantastic reminder of the talent we have here. The message for 2026 is simple: Choose Local. This isn’t just about crowning winners; it’s about recognising the skill, passion, and hard work that defines our community. By voting and dining out, you’re actively championing the people who make Brighton and Sussex so unique.”
Members of the public can cast their votes online during the four-week voting window. With more than 70,000 votes expected, results will be finalised following the close of voting on 10 March. The winners are set to be announced on 31 March 2026.
The 2026 BRAVO Awards are supported by an extensive group of partners, including Restaurants Brighton, University of Brighton, Woodhouse Butchery, Woodfire Camping, Alliance South East, Designs Woodcraft, Cheesehut, The Menu Partners, Goldstone Rum, Harriet’s of Hove, Preston Insurance, First Table, Visit Brighton, The List, Brighton Fringe, Prept, Sussex Suppliers and Restaurants Brighton Vouchers.
