Fans of The Great British Bake Off had reason to celebrate on Tuesday night as Noel Fielding made his highly anticipated return to television. The eccentric comedian and TV favorite, known for his quirky humor and iconic knitwear, appeared back in the famous tent for the show’s 16th series — marking his first appearance since stepping away from his Apple TV+ project The Completely Made Up Adventures of Dick Turpin amid health concerns.
A Welcome Return to the Tent
Dressed in a vibrant blue jumper, Noel looked in high spirits as he joined co-host Alison Hammond and judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith to kick off the new season. Viewers flooded social media with excitement, with one fan writing: “Oooh exciting, can’t wait to see you, Noel. Have you found the fountain of youth?”
Another added: “It’s gonna be epic! Bring on the knitwear!”
The beloved presenter even shared a behind-the-scenes snap with Paul Hollywood before the premiere, both men posing with the iconic bunting in the background. His caption? Simply: “Tonight!” — enough to send Bake Off fans into overdrive.
The Mystery Behind His Exit From Dick Turpin
Noel’s joyful return comes after a turbulent year in which his comedy series The Completely Made Up Adventures of Dick Turpin was abruptly axed. The Apple TV+ show, which he co-wrote and starred in, had already been filming its second season when production was suddenly halted.
At the time, insiders revealed the cancellation was linked to the “illness of a key cast member.” Noel’s representatives later confirmed he would not be returning after the Christmas break due to health reasons, sparking widespread speculation and concern from fans.
For months, Noel kept a low profile, reportedly retreating to his rural villa near Nice with partner Lliana Bird and their two young daughters over the festive period. He made only one rare public appearance in July, attending British Summertime Hyde Park with Lliana.
Bake Off Tradition Lives On
Now, back in the Bake Off tent, Noel’s presence is once again central to the magic of the show. This year, 12 contestants entered the competition, each hoping to avoid the dreaded soggy bottom and claim the title of star baker.
In the season opener, 30-year-old Hassan was the first to leave after stumbling in the three challenges, while Ukraine-born Nataliia, also 30, earned the coveted “Star Baker” crown.
With Noel back at the helm alongside Alison, Paul, and Prue, fans can rest assured the much-loved autumn tradition of Bake Off — complete with laughter, disasters, and spectacular showstoppers — is safe in his hands.
