Sex scenes in movies are hit and miss most of the time. Some are used as plot devices, most as unnecessary filler, and others can leave you sitting there, mouth agape, wondering what the hell you just watched?
Over the years, Hollywood (and beyond) has given us some of the wildest, most unhinged sex scenes imaginable. Some are meant to shock, some are unintentionally hilarious, and some are just so insane you’ll never be able to scrub them from your brain.
Let’s take a look at some of the craziest and weirdest sex scenes in film history.
Saltburn (2023) – The Graveside (& Bathtub) Love Affair
It’s been a while since a film’s sex scene became the cultural moment of the year, but Saltburn delivered in a way not many of us were expecting.
Barry Keoghan’s character, Oliver, takes things to an entirely new level of obsession when he slurps up the puddles of water in a bathtub used by his friend, Felix, after he… well, pleasures himself. Later in the film, he then climbs onto Felix’s grave and—well—has a moment. It’s weird, it’s unhinged, and it’s a true test of how much secondhand embarrassment you can handle.
The film had already teased its themes of obsession and desire, but somehow, these scenes pushed it over the edge into deranged eroticism.
Crash (1996) – A Kink For Car Crashes
No, not the Oscar-winning Crash—we’re talking about David Cronenberg’s 1996 film, which is basically what happens when someone asks, What if car crashes were sexy?
The entire movie revolves around people who get sexually aroused by automobile accidents. Twisted metal? Aphrodisiac. Totalled vehicles? Foreplay. It’s one of the most unsettling fetish films ever made.
We reached out to Rachaels London, a provider of London escorts, and spoke to Bambi, to get her take on the film’s bizarre premise.
“Look, I’ve had clients with every kind of fetish imaginable, but even this one threw me. I’m as open-minded as they come, but the idea of someone getting seriously hurt in a car crash and another being turned on by it? Yeah… I think I’ll stick to more traditional kinks.”
Honestly, we’re with Bambi on this one.
Pink Flamingos (1972) – That Poor Chicken
If you’ve never seen John Waters’ Pink Flamingos, consider this a warning. This film is filthy in a way that burns into your soul.
One particularly infamous sex scene features a live chicken being crushed between two people mid-intercourse. So yeah, animal lovers are going to want to skip this one. Oh, and that’s not even the most disturbing thing in the film. Let’s just say if you know, you know—and if you don’t? Maybe it’s best to keep it that way.
Barbarella (1968) – The Orgasm Machine
A campy, psychedelic sci-fi classic featuring Jane Fonda floating around in space lingerie, Barbarella is already a fever dream of a film—but its most infamous scene? That’s what really made jaws drop.
Captured by the villainous scientist Durand Durand, Barbarella is strapped into his ultimate torture device—the Excessive Machine, designed to pleasure its victims to death. Except there’s just one tiny problem… Barbarella enjoys it.
Instead of breaking under the machine’s intense pleasure, she rides the sensation and ultimately short-circuits the device with her sheer sexual stamina. If that’s not the ultimate sci-fi sex flex, we don’t know what is.
Splice (2009) – Man Meets Mutant
If Frankenstein had a modern, deeply disturbing cousin, Splice would be it.
Scientists Clive (Adrien Brody) and Elsa (Sarah Polley) push the boundaries of bioengineering by secretly creating a half-human, half-animal hybrid named Dren—essentially their own mutant “child.” They raise her in secret, watching her develop at an accelerated rate.
In one of the most unsettling scenes in sci-fi history, Clive—who once saw Dren as a lab experiment (or, at best, a surrogate daughter)—ends up having sex with her. This one is next-level nightmare fuel.
Team America: World Police (2004) – The Funniest Sex Scene Ever
Leave it to the creators of South Park to give us the most ridiculous, over-the-top sex scene in cinematic history—and it’s all puppets.
Team America: World Police features a full-blown puppet sex montage that includes every possible position, complete with overdramatic moans and hilariously exaggerated movements.
What makes it even funnier? It was originally way worse. The uncut version of the scene was so explicit that the MPAA demanded multiple edits before giving it an R-rating.
Yes. The censorship board actually had to tone down puppet sex.
Crank (2006) – Public Sex on the Streets of Chinatown
If Crank taught us anything, it’s that Jason Statham will literally do anything to stay alive.
In one of the film’s most batshit insane moments, his character realizes that the only way to keep his adrenaline pumping (and avoid dying) is to have sex with Amy Smart in the middle of Chinatown, in broad daylight, in front of an audience.
What starts as a desperate attempt to stay alive quickly turns into a full-blown public performance, with bystanders cheering them on. Just another reminder that Crank operates in its own insane version of reality.
Possession (1981) – Pure Nightmare Fuel
This 1981 horror film, directed by Andrzej Żuławski, isn’t just about a marriage falling apart—it’s about sanity unraveling. Isabelle Adjani plays Anna, a woman whose increasingly erratic behavior leads her husband to suspect she’s having an affair. And she is… sort of.
But instead of another man, her lover is a writhing, grotesque, tentacled monster. In what is now one of the most infamous horror sex scenes ever filmed, Anna gets intimate with a Lovecraftian nightmare—a slimy, shapeshifting creature that seems to be both her lover and her undoing.
The scene is disturbing, surreal, and drenched in nightmarish imagery. The creature, designed by Alien effects artist Carlo Rambaldi, looks like something straight out of an eldritch horror story. Even the intensity of Adjani’s performance is a little too unsettling for some.
Sausage Party (2016) – The Animated Orgy Nobody Asked For
An animated food orgy featuring hot dogs, buns, tacos, and bagels going at it like they’re in a hardcore porn film? Yep. Sausage Party really went there.
The film’s final act descends into a chaotic, multi-food-group orgy, complete with moaning, licking, and every imaginable position—all in Pixar-style animation. It’s so explicit that if you replaced the cartoon characters with real people, the film would probably be something you’d only find on the internet.
And yet… it still somehow got a wide theatrical release.
So… What’s Next?
Will Hollywood ever stop pushing the boundaries of what can be shown on screen? Probably not. If anything, films are only getting bolder, weirder, and more unhinged with how they depict sex.
The real question is: What fresh madness will they throw at us next?
