Applied Biopharm Consulting Ltd has received an Innovation Voucher from the Local Enterprise Office Cork North & West, enabling further progress in its artificial intelligence-based viral vector research initiatives.
The Innovation Voucher scheme supports Irish small and medium-sized enterprises by facilitating collaboration with recognised knowledge providers such as universities and research institutes, helping businesses explore innovation and overcome technical barriers.
With this support, Applied Biopharm Consulting plans to formalise a research collaboration with an Irish knowledge provider. The partnership will focus on validating the company’s computational platform for engineered viral vector optimisation through laboratory testing and detailed analysis.
Building on a feasibility study completed in 2024, along with an Intellectual Property (IP) Start Grant, the company is continuing to advance its structured R&D programme in next-generation adeno-associated virus (AAV) engineering. The voucher will enable further scientific validation and collaborative work, strengthening its AI-led molecular design approach.
The organisation’s research integrates artificial intelligence, structural bioinformatics, and molecular simulation to examine extensive protein structure datasets and predict biomolecular behaviour. This data-driven methodology is intended to improve targeting accuracy, increase gene delivery performance, and support the development of advanced biologic solutions.
Dr. Anthony Newcombe, Managing Director of Applied Biopharm Consulting Ltd, commented:
“The Innovation Voucher offers an important opportunity to collaborate with academic experts and further strengthen the scientific foundations of our viral vector engineering programme. By combining industry-based regulatory and manufacturing expertise with external research capability, we are accelerating the development of innovative viral vector technologies.”
A spokesperson for the Local Enterprise Office Cork North & West added:
“The Innovation Voucher scheme is designed to help innovative Irish companies access research and development expertise. We are pleased to support Applied Biopharm Consulting as it advances its research into AI-driven viral vector engineering, and we look forward to seeing the continued development of this research program.”
This award reflects Applied Biopharm Consulting’s sustained investment in research and innovation, alongside its core services supporting global biopharmaceutical clients in GMP compliance, regulatory CMC, MSAT, quality assurance, and technology transfer. By combining established regulatory expertise with next-generation biologics research, the company continues to strengthen its position within the advanced therapies landscape.
