It’s official: Outer Banks is coming to an end. Netflix has confirmed that the hit teen drama will wrap up with its fifth and final season, expected in 2026. The news was bittersweet for fans of the Pogues, who have followed their treasure hunts, tangled romances and seaside adventures since 2020.
According to co-creators Shannon Burke, Josh Pate and Jonas Pate, the story was always envisioned as a five-season arc. “From the very beginning, we imagined a mystery that would carry through five seasons of adventure, treasure hunting and friendship,” they explained. With production delays pushing back filming in Charleston, fans will have to wait a little longer before saying goodbye to John B and the gang.
But in the meantime, the Pate brothers have another treat in store — and this time, it’s arriving on a different streaming platform.
The Runarounds brings music and summer dreams
Launching on 1 September on Prime Video, The Runarounds swaps pirate gold for guitars and amplifiers. Set in Wilmington, North Carolina, the series follows a group of high school graduates who decide to form a rock band the summer after graduation. United by their passion for music and the impossible dream of becoming stars, they spend one unforgettable summer chasing gigs, falling in love, getting into trouble and discovering what family really means.
The show promises all the sun-soaked energy and youthful spirit that made Outer Banks a hit, but with a new twist: the power of music as the driving force. It’s part coming-of-age story, part romance, and part ode to the thrill of chasing a dream that feels just out of reach.
A cast of real musicians
In a bold move, Josh and Jonas Pate cast actual musicians to bring authenticity to their fictional band. William Lipton, Axel Ellis, Jeremy Yun, Zendé Murdock and Jesse Golliher make up the on-screen group, blending their real-life talent with the show’s story.
They’re joined by some familiar faces too. Lilah Pate, who previously appeared in Outer Banks, is part of the cast, alongside Brooklyn Decker (Grace and Frankie), Hayes MacArthur (Angie Tribeca), Kelley Pereira and Shea Pritchard. With such a line-up, The Runarounds promises both heartfelt performances and genuine musical chemistry.
A new summer obsession
For fans of Outer Banks, The Runarounds offers a chance to experience the same mix of youthful adventure, friendship and emotional highs — but in a fresh setting, with guitars instead of maps. Whether you’re nostalgic for long summers with big dreams or just in the mood for a series that celebrates passion and resilience, this new show could be your next binge.
So while the Pogues prepare for their final journey, another group of dreamers is ready to take the stage. And who knows? By the end of the summer, you might just find yourself rooting for The Runarounds as much as you once did for Outer Banks.
