The sun might be blazing outside, but Disney+ isn’t taking a summer break. With a line-up packed full of action, adventure and nostalgia, August is shaping up to be one of the platform’s strongest months of the year. From long-awaited sci-fi sagas to animated sequels and Marvel spin-offs, here’s everything worth watching while you’re dodging heatwaves or hiding from the rain.
The series everyone’s waiting for
Alien: Earth (Streaming from 13 August)
Let’s start with the big one. Set two years before the events of Alien, this new series drops us into a world that’s teetering on the edge of disaster. After the USCSS Maginot crashes into Earth with a deadly cargo, a specialised team led by Wendy, a synthetic with a human consciousness, is sent to investigate.
Spoiler: things go very, very wrong.
Cue intergalactic creatures on the loose, secret military missions, and the kind of creeping dread that only a proper Alien story can deliver. It’s a clever expansion of the franchise, and early previews suggest it’s more than just fan service — it’s gritty, cinematic and surprisingly emotional.
Also hitting screens this month is Eyes of Wakanda (1 August), an animated Marvel series diving deep into the Black Panther universe. If you’re craving something Marvel-flavoured but not tied to the main Avengers timeline, this is your perfect fix.
An animated comeback on the big blue sea
Moana 2 (Streaming from 28 August)
It’s been a few years since we last saw Moana navigating the high seas, but she’s back — and she’s got a new mission. Now preparing to become the chief of her tribe, she receives a mystical summons from her ancestors to journey beyond the known ocean in search of a hidden island that holds the key to uniting scattered oceanic peoples.
Expect sweeping vistas, new songs and the return of that glorious Polynesian spirit. Disney’s animation teams have outdone themselves again, and fans young and old will find something to love in this uplifting sequel.
