Get ready to snap your fingers—Wednesday is almost back. After more than two years of waiting, Netflix’s darkly delightful smash hit is finally returning with a second season. The countdown is on, and with over 250 million views and 1.7 billion hours watched under its belt, expectations are sky-high.
The new season will arrive in two parts: the first dropping on 6 August 2025, and the second on 3 September 2025. If you were wondering how to fill those late-summer evenings, you’ve got your answer.
Fresh faces, familiar ghouls
Season two promises to expand the Addams Family universe with some intriguing new additions. Jenna Ortega reprises her role as the deadpan and deliciously twisted Wednesday Addams, with Emma Myers (as Enid Sinclair) and Catherine Zeta-Jones (Morticia Addams) also back in the gothic fold.
But the casting news doesn’t stop there. Lady Gaga steps into the role of Professor Rosaline Rotwoot—a performance already generating buzz online—while Christopher Lloyd (yes, Doc Brown himself) also makes a much-anticipated appearance. Another standout? Joanna Lumley, who’ll be playing Grandmama Hester Frump, Morticia’s razor-tongued mother.
Lumley, known for her impeccable comedic timing and iconic roles, developed a throwback “mid-Atlantic” accent for the character, inspired by old-school film stars and a lifetime of jet-setting. This also marks a reunion between Lumley and director Tim Burton, who previously worked together on James and the Giant Peach and Corpse Bride.

A darker mystery at Nevermore
This season sees Wednesday return to Nevermore Academy, only this time she’s haunted by a chilling premonition: the death of her best friend and roommate, Enid. This disturbing vision drives her deeper into the twisted history of the Addams family as she seeks answers no one else seems willing to uncover.
Expect more of that signature blend of supernatural mischief, gothic atmosphere, and Wednesday’s acid-sharp wit. Burton’s storytelling has always had a flair for the eerie and eccentric, and season two looks to double down on both.
Change, controversy, and moving forward
Not all the news is cheerful, though. Actor Percy Hynes White, who played Xavier Thorpe in season one, will not return. His departure follows allegations of sexual assault made in early 2023. While Hynes White has denied the accusations, describing them as a “campaign of disinformation,” he confirmed in May 2024 that he would not be returning to the series.
Jenna Ortega has since commented on the change, noting that with so many new characters joining the ensemble, his absence “sort of gets lost”—a diplomatic nod to the series’ evolving landscape.
With a mix of returning favourites and high-profile newcomers, the second season of Wednesday is set to offer a fresh take on the delightfully macabre world that fans have come to adore.
