Symondsbury Kitchen has reopened to visitors following refurbishment work designed to update and refresh the well-known café.
After closing briefly to allow renovation work to take place, the café welcomed guests again in late January with an updated interior.
“The aim has always been to create somewhere people feel comfortable spending time. Whether that’s stopping for coffee, sharing a meal with friends or simply taking a pause during the day. The refresh allows the space to evolve while keeping the warmth and character people know,” said a spokesperson for the café.
The refurbishment introduced natural colour tones inspired by the surrounding landscape and aligned with the Estate’s Fern Green branding. New furniture and improved seating layouts have also been added.

A new breakfast bar provides a flexible area where visitors can enjoy casual meals, coffee breaks or work remotely.
The updated design reflects the estate’s connection to the countryside while encouraging guests to relax and spend time in the café.
Symondsbury Kitchen first opened in 2013 following a significant restoration carried out by Julia and Philip Colfox. The café occupies a building within the historic Symondsbury country estate.
The building had previously fallen into disrepair after farming activities ended, and the Colfox family undertook extensive work to restore it for use as a café.

Since opening, the venue has become a popular destination for walkers, families and residents in the local community. More than a decade on, it continues to attract visitors to West Dorset.
The café maintains a strong family-friendly focus, offering books, games and drawing materials for children to ensure an inclusive environment for visitors of all ages.
Its menu continues to reflect a seasonal farm-to-fork approach, using locally sourced ingredients and providing good value dining.
Food options include breakfasts, toasties, daily specials, salads, fish pie, homemade cakes, speciality coffee and a dedicated children’s menu.
Now fully open again, Symondsbury Kitchen continues its original mission of combining heritage surroundings, seasonal food and a welcoming rural atmosphere.
