A new British novel exploring themes of wealth, secrecy and recovery has been released by Aberdeen-born author Richard Hood.
Filthy Rich is set in Shoreham-by-Sea and follows Oliver Wright, a high-performing financier whose life changes following a heart attack that forces him to step away from London.
Relocating to the Sussex coast, the character attempts to rebuild his health while confronting long-standing habits and decisions.
“This book draws on my observations of ambition, risk and the human instinct to test boundaries. After facing serious health challenges, the idea of reinvention became deeply personal. Filthy Rich explores what happens when someone is given a second chance but struggles to let go of old habits.” Said Richard.
The marina and yacht club setting provides the backdrop for a story focused on reinvention, temptation and accountability.
As the narrative develops, the tension between outward recovery and internal conflict becomes central, culminating in a significant incident that exposes hidden pressures.
Richard’s own background includes extensive travel across Europe, North America, China and the Caribbean, as well as a long-standing involvement in skiing.
He has faced a number of serious personal challenges, including major illness and a kidney transplant, experiences that inform the novel’s focus on second chances.
He lives with his wife Joanne and their son Jonathan and spent over two decades in business, including managing The Courtyard Restaurant, where he welcomed high-profile guests.
The publication of Filthy Rich marks his first work of fiction and reflects a life shaped by travel, adversity and professional experience.
The release is published by UK-based Maple Publishers, a company known for supporting imaginative and engaging works in literature, with book cover design, illustrations, and book layout by White Magic Studios.
Filthy Rich is available via Amazon in Kindle, Paperback editions. A book trailer can be viewed on White Magic Studio’s official channel.
