BSI Supply Chain Release New Food Safety Regulations

Avatar By Posted on 2 m read
A new set of modules that monitor food safety and fraud intelligence and assessment has been released
by BSI Supply Chain Services and Solutions. The module that has been created by the Business Standards
company has been developed in order to help those that are a part of the food industry to be more
proactive when attempting to reduce and prepare for any threats or challenges that could then impact
on customers. It is thought that the module will also help companies anticipate problems which could
then mean that they can avoid problems and reduce and a negative impact on the company’s bottom
line or brand reputation. It is the brand reputation and the bottom line for a business that can be the
essential incentives to prepare for the risk of threats.
The new modules will be looking at food safety and fraud intelligence, therefore the systems that form
part of the BSI module will allow companies to manage any points where there are possibilities for food
tampering, contamination or any form of mislabeling in order to prevent any incidents actually
occurring. The modules will also explore the situations around any recalls and any deceptive food and
beverages.
The British Safety Institute has developed their Supply Chain Services and Solutions as a web based
application which consists of the Supply Chain Risk Exposure Evaluation Network, or SCREEN. The BSI
have created SCREEN as a solution which will provide two different risk indicators. The two indicators
are for food safety and then for food fraud. The web based risk evaluation solution is capable of
providing a threat rating for more than 200 different companies. The system will also have an element
of interaction in order to display risk maps and other qualitative reports. SCREEN is currently working
successfully as it has led to the Brazilian authority managing to indict 63 different people for their role in
a tainted meat scandal.

FreshTag Recieve Dupont Award

Avatar By Posted on 2 m read
The innovative labelling technology company Insignia Technologies has revealed that they have
achieved global recognition as part of the 29 th Dupont Awards. Insignia managed to win the award for
their Freshtag Product and managed to pick up the accolade ae for the cutting edge technology usage
behind the labeling product.
Insignia Technologies is a Scottish company that has managed to win the Gold Award at the Dupont
Awards. The Freshtag product is a new monitoring system of both time and temperature that can then
be linked in order to create an entire supply chain that stretches form the production of a product to the
store. The purpose of Freshtag is to provide the information that means food can be consumed at its
optimal point of freshness. It is thought that monitoring the freshness of produce could also lead to
reduced amount of food waste.
The Freshtag label is programmed to change colors over the period of a set number of days or when the
produce is at specified temperatures. The tag works so that the colour will change more rapidly if the
temperature of the produce increases. This means that any issues with temperature when storing the
produce can be highlighted and then addressed. The labels are created at a low cost which means that it
is possible for them to be used on individual products or cases throughout shipping and transportation.
It is thought that the Freshtag will encourage good behaviour and deter from any unsafe storage
throughout the supply chain by clearly visually demonstrating when an item is at its peak quality or
when it has depreciated or is perhaps unsafe. It is thought that pointing out any flaws in the supply
chain could also lead to the shelf life of a product being extended as it will allow for the produce to be
stored at the optimum temperature throughout the supply chain.

Avatar By Posted on 2 m read
Research has shown that B&B’s and other Guesthouses in the UK have seen an increase in bookings since
the triggering of Article 50. Since the parliamentary document was signed, this section of the hospitality
has seen a surge. It is thought that this increase in the number of bookings in B&B and Guesthouses is
because of the low value of the pound and the vote that triggers the actions to leave the European
Union.
It has been discovered when analysis has been carried out on the booking data of over 5,000 bookings,
that the number of bookings are up 19.2% in comparison in the same period before the Brexit vote.
These factors are agreed upon as having an impact on the number of bookings in B & Bs in the UK this
year and it is great news for this sector, as the vote is meaning that they are seeing a rise in business in
comparison to the gloomy forecast of a drop in business in most sectors across the UK.
The industry is seeing double the benefits from the low value of the pound at the minute as the
businesses are receiving the custom of those that live in the UK and are concerned about how far their
money will stretch is they travelled further afield. However, on top of all the tourists that are choosing
to Holiday at Home this year, there is also been an increase in the numbers of international bookings
from those who are looking to visit Britain while the exchange rate is more favourable to them.
Of the 5,000 Bed and Breakfast owners that were involved in the research, the majority have said that
thy ear favourable of the vote to leave the EU. The majority, like most when considering Brexit, is only
marginal, with 48.3% agreeing that we should leave the EU and 45.8% saying we should stay. However
more than two thirds of those that were asked said that there shouldn’t be a second referendum.

London Farmer’s Market Collaboration.

Avatar By Posted on 2 m read
London Farmers’ Markets will be working in partnership with the Gladwin Brothers in order to offer
Londoners a range of countryside produce without them having to go any further out of the city than
Battersea. The Gladwin Brothers are known for being behind a number of acclaimed restaurants
including The Shed, Rabbit and Nutbourne. The trio will be joining up with London Farmers’ Markets in
order to offer The Ransome’s Dock Farmers Market. The three brothers will be expanding in to the
Farmer’s Markets as an extension of their focus on farm to plate business and an ethos of sustainability
in their restaurants.
The Ransome’s Dock Farmers Market will be offering Londoners the produce of independent farmers
located around the country. It is thought that the Market will be offering support to smaller producers
and farmers by selling their goods at the Ransome’s Dock Market. The newest Farmers’ Market in
London will be located outside the Gladwin Brother’s newest restaurant Nutbourne. It is thought that
the market will be providing the highest quality of rural products for the city dwellers. All three of the
Gladwin Brothers have been working towards building a hub for foodies through their popular
restaurants. Richard, Oliver and Gregory Gladwin are pleased with their partnership with London
Farmers’ Markets who is well established and have been operating for around 20 years. There are
around 22 weekly markets that take place around London. The Farmers’ Markets are cutting out any
middle men stores allowing the producer to sell directly to the customer. These markets are also
thought to protect farmers and it has been calculated that around 50% of the farmers that use these
markets would not be able to operate without them.
The new market will consist of 25 different food stalls each week and will offer customers a range of
different ingredients from farmers, growers and other food producers. The markets will take place on
Saturdays and visitors at the market will be welcome at the Nutbourne to try out the rural inspired
menu.
